Indian Summer views in NY/NJ/PA

Skyline New York City from the George Washington Bridge

English summary

During our last weeks in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania we were lucky to enjoy the beauty of the "Indian Summer". All those different colours, especially those of the various maple trees, that was real special to us since we never saw the colourcombination in Europe ourselves. And seen the weather conditions: far too cold and some rain now and then we probably missed the top of the bill! Next time!

Leaving New York City over the George Washington Bridge into New Jersey, looking back we had a awesome overview over the city's skyline and the New Jersey riverside.

Of course we travelled all the way through Canada and USA with the American election for president on our "backseat". For us almost every evening we had to sit down for the "election show" (CNN/Fox/ABC/NBC); maybe not that fascinating to Americans, but since we at home do have a rather different way of electing our representatives (we don't elect our prime minister, as a result of our national election for representatives in the House of Representatives normally the biggest party will provide the new prime minister) we were fascinated by the way politics are being "done with" in the USA.
All the negative ad's - unknown in Holland - just to bring down your opponent in the eyes of Joe Sixpack, amazing! We did miss positive items - plans, what to do about all the items that are important to the ordinary people - too much.
A program like the "Truth Squad" of CNN showed how many ads - as a percentage more Republicans than Democrats - are qualified as "misleading or false"! So many Americans not reading national newspapers are not so well informed about what the candidates really can offer them.
Although Obama seems to be in favor, lots of people we met still believe in a revival of McCain! Most Americans are focussing on specific items, and of course on traditional and religious ones. We'll see! The "Saterday Nigt Live" show with a great Tina Fey as Sarah Palin gave us quite a parody on politics up to date!

The last week in the USA we took the opportunity to visit Angela's niece Linda, husband and her kids (6 an 3 years old) in Indianapolis. We visited them during our world bike tour in Athens, Greece from where they moved to the USA last August. Great to see how those youngsters do manage at school and handle "Halloween" for the first time!

From Lorie's place in Harrisburg we'll drive to Washington to fly - on Nov.4, what a blunder!! -back to the Netherlands. About our plans after this adventure? We'll inform you as soon as possible.
