Vanaf Poughkeepsie in New York State de Hudson River stroomafwaarts gevolgd, langs de

English summary
On September 22 our son informed us by email about Erik's mother passing away at the age of 90. That is why we left for the Netherlands for just over a week to attend her funeral. Since she was suffering from Altzheimer disease for about 2 years we felt sadness, and releave that she didn't had to go all the way "downhill".
Our stages brougt us in Boston - where we got a good impressing of downtown and North End by doing the "Freedom Trail". Staying in a pleasant situated chain hotel, just minutes on walking distance from Harvard Square we "underwent" the presence of all those institutes of science, like Harvard, Princeton, Berkeley and MIT.
Via Cap Cod and Providence, Rhode Island we biked north west through Connecticut and the Appalachian Mountains. A lot of climbing, and the first sights of the "Symfony of Color", the fall foliage season in New England. What beaty's, specially under bright sunshine! All those typical colors of the different maples, from pink to deep, deep red and purple: brilliant!
From Poughkeepsie in New York State we followed the Hudson River, downstream to Westpoint Militairy Academy and the "Palisades State Park" in New Jersey, over the George Washington Bridge into uptown New York (182 St).
In downtown New York we again experienced in what a small world we live: waiting for traffic lights on Fifth Avenue, near Soho, we saw one of Erik's hockeymates crossing. Together with his family he spent a week in NY; in Princestreet we had a one hour shat, of course far too short, and a good glass of wine! Amazing!
Biking in NY was quite an adventure, a pleasant one! From a busy Central Park to Staten Island, along the Hudson and East River over fine bike lanes. Covering over 70miles under favorable weather conditions we had a great time in the Big Apple. Even
the atmosphere in Wallstreet and in the opposite Stock Exchange was optimistic, although..!
